Do something different.
When I first start working with clients, they always wanting to fast track results. Whether it is getting their Inbox under control, building and delivering more effective presentations or analysing data in their Excel spreadsheet, they KNOW there will be work involved, but they want to get there quickly!
Reality is we didn’t get to where we are, overwhelmed and overloaded, overnight and a one day workshop, one hour seminar or reading a book is not going to “fix” our sense of overload.
In his latest book, A World without Email, Computer Science Professor Cal Newport beautifully encapsulates where we are…‘We didn’t just shift our existing volume of voicemails, faxes, and memos to this new, more convenient electronic medium; we completely transformed the underlying workflow that determines how our daily efforts unfold.’
Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. If you don’t like how you, your team or your organization work, or don’t work, with everyday technology, then the first step is simple….just do something different.
Brainstorm solutions with your colleagues or team, have a team mate run an eye over your PowerPoint presentation or explore how to extract the data you need from Excel with less stress and risk. If you want a different result, reduced sense of overwhelm or overload, you need to do something different.
