Don’t Sort Columns in Excel One at a Time – There’s a Much Easier Way
Ever found yourself sorting one column, then another in Excel trying to isolate the information you need?
It’s a common task, but one that could be wasting time and creating unnecessary stress and frustration.
There is a better way: Excel 365’s Custom Sort option.
In one of my Excel videos, I take you through how using Excel’s Custom Sort it is easy to sort multiple columns in one action. This simple change can significantly enhance the way you work with data.
Why Is Custom Sort A Better Solution?
Although sorting via multiple filters might seem comfortable, it is not that efficient. It requires multiple actions as opposed to Custom Sort which offers the ability to sort more strategically:
- Rather than sort by one column, Custom Sort allows you to sort by two or more columns in one action.
- It creates a cleaner view of your data with structure, no confusing filter icons at the top of each list, just data sorted to display by the columns and criteria YOU select
- By simplifying and reducing multiple clicks as well as minimising data confusion and frustration.
Custom Sort enables you to stay on top of, and in control of your data regardless of whether you are managing staffing data, client information or sales reports.
A Smart Example
Consider sorting a list of sales data by State, then by Client name, and then Order Amount with the results displaying from the smallest sale to the largest sale.
With Custom Sort, the output Excel delivers is a clean organised view without the mess of multiple filters. It is fast, more professional and super simple!
