Productivity Bahamas Style
I joke in my presentations about Productivity, Bahamas style.
I use it in the context of the volume of work we deal with in today’s business world and what happens when we have a pleasurable deadline looming.
Productivity Bahamas style is the ability we miraculously acquire prior to going on a holiday. It is the ability to easily determine the MUST be done before you leave tasks and activities and isolate those that can wait until your return.
But what if we applied it every day?
When working with clients I often hear of processes that staff do a certain way because that’s the way they have always done it. Sometimes they don’t even know WHY they are doing something. They just do it and have never questioned it.
Simply exploring WHY we do a task and the return on investment it delivers can help us discover that there may be tasks that you do that are no longer relevant or deliver no real return on investment of time, we just keep doing them because that’s what we have always done.
Next time you get started on a repetitive task, ask yourself if it’s adding value or simply wasting time. Learning to cut back on the stuff that no longer matters enables you to spend more time focussing on what does matter.
